Festival of Light
Deepavali (or Divali) is a Sanskrit word meaning "row of lights." It is a popular Hindu festival
celebrated by all Hindus, regardless of sect or caste.
It falls on the Hindu calendar day of the month of Kartika, October to November, around the fall
equinox when the sun rises precisely in the east and sets exactly in the west.
At this time people celebrate with brilliant fireworks, dressing in their finest clothes, giving
sweets and treats and burning little lamps to add sparkle and magic to the night sky.
There are several legends that explain the origins of Deepavali. Join us as we tell the stories
that will draw you into a world filled with wonder and danger, goodness and wisdom, and health and
prosperity for the coming year.
