Born in India, Radhika Sekar has lived in Canada since 1974. She
holds a PhD in Religious Studies and taught Hinduism at Carleton
University, Ottawa.
Now, a full-time writer, she has published short stories in
several anthologies and in 2004 was a winner in the City of Ottawa
Short Story Contest, and a finalist in the Canadian Authors
Association Short Story contest 2006.
Having brought up two children in Canada, Radhika knows the challenge of perpetuating heritage
traditions in an alien environment. She hopes that her books, "Lord of Beginnings - Stories
of the Elephant-Headed Deity: Ganesha" and "Festival of Light - Deepavali Legends From
Around India" along with future books in the Kaleidoscope Books series, will fill that void
and encourage children of all backgrounds and ages to learn more about Hindu culture. Radhika also
contributes to the Ask the Religion Expert column in The Ottawa Citizen.
Her other hobbies are: Yoga, reading, quilting
and gardening. She lives in Ottawa with her husband.
